Political Institute For Women Training Women To Influence Upcoming Elections

Organization trains women to fully leverage their political power in upcoming elections.

WASHINGTON - May 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Women comprise the majority of the electorate in the United States. Significant energy is being expended by political parties and special interest groups to influence women. The Political Institute for Women is hosting a series of Advocacy & Politics Workshops in the cities of Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City and Washington DC in advance of the 2014 election. The series is for any woman that wants to be more politically active beyond voting and wants to learn the fundamentals of advocacy and political engagement.  The workshop sessions include Advocacy 101, Fundraising for Advocates, Campaign Strategy and Political Fundraising Fundamentals. In addition the sessions there will be roundtable discussions with elected officials, community activists and policy analysts.

“Women are turning out in droves to vote. Women, particularly African American women, were significant factors in the re-election of President Obama and the election of Terry McAuliffe in Virginia. Unfortunately the voting booth is the only place where women are found in the majority in the political process. In the US women are on average just 20% of our elected officials. I want to see women taking part in shaping the options. Shaping the options we have on the ballot, being candidates or propelling candidates that consider the needs of women and families a priority. I want to see women shaping legislation moving through our county commissions, state legislatures and Congress. The first step is educating women on the political landscape and the ways in which they can be a force -- that is what this workshop series is designed to do.” – Kimberly Mitchem-Rasmussen, Political Director/Founder of the Political Institute for Women
