NEWTON, Mass. - May 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Cherrytree Group President Warren Kirshenbaum raised over $5,500 for Project Hope through his participation on the Boston Marathon team, which he ran earlier this month.  This was his second marathon, which he finished in a time of 3:54:56.

Kirshenbaum ran his first marathon last year, also for Project Hope.  He had just finished the race when the blasts went off.

Project Hope is a multi-service agency at the forefront of efforts in Boston to move families beyond homelessness and poverty.  They provide low-income women with children access to education, jobs, housing and emergency services, and foster personal transformation and work with the community and state for broader systems change.  Through his participation on Project Hope’s Boston Marathon Team, he surpassed the amount he raised last year (over $4,800) as well as his goal of $5,000, raising a total of $5,564.  (The Project Hope team has raised $327,382, surpassing its goal of $250,000.)

“Running on the Project Hope team has been profoundly eye-opening,” offered Kirshenbaum.  “Seeing the work that I do, firsthand, such as providing emergency shelter services, crisis management services, adult education, training, and access to jobs, strengthened my resolve to run a marathon for charity, and I kept their work in mind as I came to the more challenging parts of the run.

“I have been overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and support,” Kirshenbaum added.  “These donations will not just change one life, but that person’s kids’ lives, and the trajectory of their family’s future as well.”

Kirshenbaum added, “I recognize that I experienced a transforming life event that dug deep into my inner being to find the strength to run 26.2 miles and then to make some sense of the unfathomable reality that was playing out before us.  I will take these positive feelings and experiences into the world to share them with the people I love, and to pay it forward, and I will never stop believing.”

Kirshenbaum was also asked to speak at “Eyes on Boston – A Night to Remember and Celebrate Boston Strong,” being held at The Whiskey Priest (150 Northern Avenue, Boston) on Monday, April 28.  The event was held by Eyetechs, Inc.  He was invited based on his participation in both the 2013 and 2014 Boston Marathon.
