Dr. Freeman Hrabowski to Moderate Discussion at Center for Urban Families’ Urban Visionary Awards

Hrabowski will moderate a discussion between honorees, Angela Glover Blackwell and Wes Moore.

BALTIMORE - May 14, 2014 - PRLog -- The Center for Urban Families’ (CFUF) will welcome University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) president Dr. Freeman Hrabowski on June 4th as discussion moderator for its 3rd Urban Visionary Awards. CFUF’s Urban Visionary Awards is designed to honor trailblazers who do outstanding work in communities across the nation. This year, the Center will honor founder and PolicyLink CEO Angela Glover Blackwell as its national honoree and OWN Network’s “Beyond Belief” host, author Wes Moore as its local honoree. Blackwell and Moore will engage in a thought-provoking “living room chat” about challenges and solutions for urban communities as one of the event highlights.

Dr. Freeman Hrabowski has served as president of UMBC since 1992 and was named one of “America’s Best Leaders” by U.S. News & World Report, which ranked UMBC the nation’s #1 “Up and Coming” university in 2008. He also was recently appointed by President Obama to chair the newly created President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans. CFUF Founder and CEO, Joe Jones commented “We’re extremely honored that Dr. Hrabowski has signed on to be a part of one of the Center’s milestone events.” Past Urban Visionary Award recipients include Geoffrey Canada of the Harlem Children’s Zone; philanthropists Eddie and Sylvia Brown; Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund and her husband Peter Edelman, distinguished law professor at Georgetown; and Diane Bell-McKoy, President and CEO of the Associated Black Charities. Special recognition was also given to Campaign Manager of the Open Society Foundation’s Campaign for Black Male Achievement, Shawn Dove.
