NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, U.K. - May 14, 2014 - PRLog -- AN AWARD-WINNING Indian restaurant has once again been recognised for its outstanding cuisine.

Raval Luxury Indian Restaurant was named North East Spice Restaurant of the Year at the prestigious British Curry Awards – dubbed the ‘Curry Oscars’ – at a star-studded event in London last November.

And now it has struck gold again…literally, after scooping a gold award at the highly-regarded Salon Culinaire event, a showcase for talent in the catering industry, organised by the North East Culinary and Trade Association (NECTA).

One of the restaurant’s chefs scooped the award in the hotly-contested Asian food category at the event, held at Newcastle Civic Centre on May 8 and 9.

Raval manager Avi Malik said of the achievement: “I see this as yet another endorsement of the Raval way of cooking.

“We’re unlike any other Indian restaurant in the North East in that we dare to be different.

“You won’t recognise many of the dishes on Raval’s menu because we don’t deal in the ubiquitous mouth-burning sloppy curries that seem to be standard fare in many restaurants.

“Instead, we offer healthy, authentic Indian cuisine that is subtly spiced and beautifully presented.”

NECTA Chairman Douglas Jordan said: “The Asian category of the competition is always keenly contested but Raval’s offering edged it because of its excellent flavour.

“Our Salon Culinaire acts as a showcase for up and coming talent and is going from strength to strength – this year’s event was the best yet. Now we’re already looking ahead to 2015.”

Raval’s unique approach to Indian cuisine won plaudits on the national stage at the British Curry Awards, in the presence of Prime Minister David Cameron and host Chris Tarrant.

Mr Malik, who collected his award from former England rugby coach Sir Clive Woodward, added: “It’s wonderful to have our skills recognised yet again.”

The restaurant – located just off the TyneBridge in Gateshead – is currently running a special promotion for its popular early evening menu, available for £9.95 instead of the normal £15.95 for bookings made online before May 31.

Meanwhile, it is fast gaining a reputation as the first choice of celebrities visiting the region, with Sir Cliff Richard, football legend Alan Shearer and Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole among those to have enjoyed its hospitality.
