By: The Beehive a tribute to iconic singer-songwriter Billie Holiday with cuisine from Executive Chef Marc Orfaly, libationsandlive entertainment. From 8:00PM to 12:00AM, Boston ladies of blues, vocalists Gabriela Martina and Nadia Washington, will be joined on stage by special guests for an evening of performance dedicated to the beloved musician. Billie Holiday was an inspiring jazz artist, revolutionizing a new way of creating phrase and tempo during the 20th century. Her vulnerable, intimate voice passionately crossed the emotional range of the universe, communicating both bliss and pain with an imminence that was innocent, natural and deeply refined. With recordings such as "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm," and "Crazy He Calls Me," it was no doubt that Holiday would become a powerful icon today. Her career was an immense journey that began in night clubs in Harlem, and ended with various singles being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, even after her death. Known for her original music that grapples with hard questions and emotions, much like the legendary and charming Billie Holiday, vocalist Gabriela Martina will bring a variety of musical influences to The Beehive’s stage including jazz, funk, gospel and more. Her upcoming album “No White Shoes” explores several different influences, creating a sound that is both powerful and entirely unpredictable. Joining Martina on stage, Nadia Washington will charm the audience with her smooth, velvet-cloaked vocals. Often compared to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, Nadia Washington’s vocal style incorporates a fusion of many different musical avenues. Washington brings together the heart and soul of music, with influences ranging from Queen, to Yolanda Adams, to her own mother Nelda Washington. The night’s music will be complemented by the culinary contributions of Executive Chef Marc Orfaly from 5:00PM-12:00AM. Guests are welcome for a full dinner, or to choose from The Beehive’s collection of cocktails and snacks at the bar while they enjoy the show. With Billie Holiday’s powerful and inspiring sound, it is sure that the outcome of this show and its performers is one that cannot be missed.
