I knew my dreams were communicating to me somehow: they weren’t just passively showing me things; they were guiding me, calling me to action.” – Lost In The Dream

NEW YORK - May 13, 2014 - PRLog -- New York, NY, May13, 2014 – Akilah Bixler debuts her Non-Fiction book Lost In The Dream. Everything seemed picture perfect. They were living the American Dream. Or were they? One night changed everything in an instant. The lines between her dreams and reality became so intertwined that Mary did not know what was real. For the first time she saw who she really was – and it was not the person she wanted to be. She realized that she had lost herself in everyone else’s ideas of who she should be and it felt like she was losing her mind. Who was she? How did she get there? How would she find her true self? Lost In The Dream is a true story of a mother’s journey on facing the image she portrayed to the world, releasing her fears, and ultimately succumbing to her heart to find her authentic self and sustainable happiness.

Motherhood is beautiful, amazing and fulfilling and at the same time awful, hard and challenging. To give a voice to only one side of motherhood does a disservice to mothers and future parents. Hearing a mother recount the story of an inconsolable screaming baby at a party not only normalizes that situation for other mothers but it also creates empathy by others who are childless. Lost in the Dream is an inspirational, honest, humorous, and heart-warming look at love, marriage, parenthood and life filled with lessons that can make us all a little bit better or at least get us thinking and talking about ourselves and each other with more kindness and compassion.

Akilah Bixler is a native Californian that earned her B.A in English Literature from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN and her MBA from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA. She now resides in New York, NY with her husband of 19 years and their nine year old daughter and five year old son.
