By: Leave A Legacy of Miami-Dade LEAVE A LEGACY© established the Community Champion Award to honor individuals who contribute to the non-profit community and have shown a great commitment to Miami-Dade County through their activism to help the community’s most vulnerable. Padrón, who was named one of the top 10 college presidents in the United States by Time Magazine, is known for revolutionizing the role of a community college by raising academic standards, offering four-year degrees and a competitive honors program. Today Miami Dade College has more than 170,000 students and graduates more minorities than any other college in the country. At the Donor Next Door luncheon, City Year Miami Executive Director Said Ishoof will receive the Ruth Shack Leadership Award, which is given to an emerging leader who represents the qualities of ethics, dedication and service embodied by The Miami Foundation’s former president.
