Andy Russell Named Celebrity Golfer for St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open

PITTSBURGH - May 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Gibsonia, Pa. (Richland Township),  Golfers at the St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open will have the chance to meet Andy Russell, two-time Super Bowl Champion and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker (1963-1976) at the annual St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open Monday, June 2 at the Butler Country Club.

Registration is open for the tournament’s morning field at 7:45 a.m.  or the afternoon field at 12:45 p.m. Cost is $375 per golfer.  The registration fee includes unlimited range balls, cart and greens fees, beverages on the course, a buffet lunch, an evening reception and a dinner and awards ceremony emceed by Jim O’Brien.  Golfers will also have the opportunity to bid on dozens of silent auction packages. Jim O’Brien, local sports author and historian, will personalize his book “Glory Years” for each golfer. Also returning to the tournament is long drive entertainer Bobby Bradley.  Bradley is the 1999 Pittsburgh Pirates first round draft pick, CEO/Owner of Charity Golf International and 7 Time Re/Max World Long Drive Finalist. He will host a hole-in-two contest with a trip to Pebble Beach as the prize.

“Glory Years” profiles men and women from the tri-state area who have become heroes in their hometowns. O’Brien, a resident of Upper St. Claire and a Hazelwood native, has written 23 books, 20 of which focus on Pittsburgh. Currently, he writes the bi-weekly column “Postgame” for the Pittsburgh Business Times and a weekly column in The Valley Mirror. He has been honored as a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and named a “Legend” by the Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. He was also awarded the Bob Prince Award for his contributions to journalism and the David L. Lawrence Award for his work promoting Pittsburgh.

Bobby Bradley, of Wellington, Fla., founded the Charity Golf International in 2012 to help raise money and provide entertainment for non-profit organizations throughout the United States and Canada. In its first year Charity Golf International participated in more than 275 events and generated more than $1,250,000 in donations.
