HOBART, Ind. - May 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Earlier this month, union carpenters of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) volunteered to lend a helping hand to the Hobart Girls Softball League.

In just one day, the carpenters enclosed the concession stand area, updated the existing women’s bathroom to make it handicap accessible, and dug holes and put in posts for a fence to create a fourth softball field. “It is a privilege for us to be able to share our time and talents with the Hobart Girls Softball league,” said Mike Stavitzke, IKORCC Senior Manager. “We are always looking for ways to give back to our community, and we couldn’t be happier to have worked with such a dedicated group of people.”

Hobart Girls Softball currently serves over 300 players, ages 3 and up. It is entirely self-funded and is supported by registration fees, community sponsorships, concession stand sales and softball tournaments. “A lot of our funding comes from concession sales,” said Kathleen Belk, Hobart Girls Softball Executive Board Secretary. “Having an enclosed area for our concession stand will draw in more people and help us generate more revenue, ultimately allowing us to provide more for our girls.”

Belk added, “Family is at the heart of our league, and it’s so wonderful to have the opportunity to work with a group of people who have strong family values and an incredible work ethic. We sincerely appreciate how much time and energy went into completing the projects. As a nonprofit receiving no outside funding, it’s difficult for us to complete a project quickly and within our limited budget, and it means so much for the carpenters to step up to the plate and help us out.”

The Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters represents more than 32,000 professional tradespeople in 43 locals in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and parts of West Virginia and Tennessee. A proud affiliate of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, which has a century-plus tradition of representing the best of the building trades, the council works in partnership with more than 30,000 contractors, helping them find the best possible talent for their projects. The hallmark of the regional council is three-fold: training, professionalism and partnerships for economic development.
