Izzy Felstead who competes under the name IzzyF is in the pre-teens category of the national singing, X-factor style, talent competition for teenagers and pre-teens opened the very first of the Area Finals stages on Saturday 10th May. She was also the first competitor to be announced that she had got through to the Grand Finals of the competition to be held at the NEC.
Throughout May five other Area Finals are completed around the UK to select the 25-30 Finalists in each age group: pre-teen (under 13); mid teen (13-15) and late-teen (16-19). Thousands of hopefuls have auditioned and played at live venues around the UK. The Grand Final of the competition, which started in January in Birmingham, will be held at the NEC on the 19th July. Last year the overall winner of the competition was Luke Friend who went on to be a top three runner up in the X- Factor.
Izzy auditioned in February with 'Warwick Avenue' by Duffy which she sang a capella after her backing CD failed, went on to sing 'Strong' by London Grammar at one of the Regional Final shows (you can see her performance on youtube here at: http://www.tinyurl.com/
On Saturday she sang and played piano keyboard to her own original song aptly called "No Turning Back". Izzy was first on stage and held her nerve when the backing track started slightly before she had selected piano on her keyboard equipment! She explained “I was nearly caught out a bit, another second or two and I might have played my piano part in harpsichord or something!”
Izzy who is from Chippenham, Wiltshire said "I was really unsure if I was going to get through as the other competitors put on some really great performances. Actually, I'm very sorry to see some go out of the competition as I've made a few nice friends on the way to this stage."
Chris Grayston, Events Coordinator for TeenStar comments “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer, another Birdy or Luke Friend that can go all the way, with both the ability to deliver a strong live performance but also potential to become a professional recording artist. There is so much talent out there I’m sure we can find that star again!”
