This year’s Maria Ikenberg Lindberg Keynote speaker is Michael Peres, RBP, FBPA, associate chair of the School of Photographic Arts & Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology. London-based photographer Tim Flach will present the Anne Shiras Pioneer Members Lecture, “Who’s upside down; us or the bats?”, exploring the way we see the world and the relationships we forge between humans and non-humans through photography. His lecture will discuss the key themes of his work, reflecting on the way in which we shape animals and shape their meaning through images.

Flach will also lead two workshops on Friday entitled “Paws and Claws, Humane Society Photo Workshop” and “How to See in Color”. The “Paws and Claws” workshop will begin with a trip to the local animal shelter where Flach will work with the group to demonstrate the best ways to photograph shelter animals. In the “How to See in Color” workshop, Flach will explore viewing images and how our eyes see and navigate through these images.

Winners of the BCA’s 2014 BioImages competition will be announced at an Honors Banquet Friday, July 25. BioImages is an annual visual media competition that showcases the finest still, graphics and motion media work in the life sciences and medicine.

This year’s meeting will be held concurrently with the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI) and the Association of Biomedical Communication Directors (ABCD). The three groups will participate in a joint opening reception on July 23, where BCA’s 2014 BioImages entries will be exhibited.
