The 2015 Subaru WRX is Named a Top Safety Pick

This is the third Subaru model that has received the Top Safety Pick rating, as both the 2014 Impreza and 2014 XV Crosstrek earned the same high recognition earlier this year. The 2014 Legacy and Outback, along with the 2015 Forester, have all earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

In the IIHS moderate overlap frontal, side impact frontal, and small overlap frontal tests, the 2015 WRX earned a best possible rating of “Good” as it also did in the front, side, roof, and head-restraint tests. Since active safety features such as forward collision warning and brake-assist are not available with the WRX, it was not eligible for the Top Safety Pick+ award.

The newly redesigned 2015 WRX is built upon the same platform as the Impreza, although it definitely sports its own unique styling. The vehicle comes in two models to choose from, the WRX and the WRX STI. Both are sport sedans that comfortably seat up to 5.

The WRX is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L 286 hp 4-cylinder boxer engine, while under the hood of the WRX STI is a 2.5L turbo that delivers 305 hp. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard with both models, as is all-wheel drive. A CVT with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters is an available option only on the WRX.

The IIHS Top Safety Pick rating is among the most coveted in the industry, and Subaru looks as though it is going to be making a habit of scoring the award.
