May 9, 2014 - PRLog -- The National Writing for Children Center is a showcase for children's books and their authors and illustrators. Each month, they showcase children's book authors and/or illustrators to let children, parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians, and others interested in the world of children's literature know about these artists' wonderful new children's books. This month, the NWFCC has five authors in its showcase.

Meet The May 2014 Showcase Authors

The Author: Joe Scott is a major developer and contractor in the Merrimack River Valley, and also an acclaimed author. His first book, The Joe Dial, received glowing reviews for its perceptive take on human interaction, and the role of positive and negative energy in relationships.

The Book: Friendship Friendesha

Kiley loves spending time with her Granpa Gus. But these days he seems more interested in the strange machine he’s built to send messages into outer space. One day, while Grandpa Gus is dozing, Kiley beams out her own message. To her surprise, it is answered by the Friendeshans–the most pozzi-powered beings in the galaxy

The Author: Deanna K. Klingel resides in the mountains of North Carolina with her husband. She writes primarily for middle grade and YA. This is her first picture book, the first of a series of backyard nature. Deanna has seven grown children with whom she shared her love of backyard nature, and now enjoys the company of eleven grandchildren. She enjoys visiting schools and museums to visit with her readers.

The Book: Backyard nature is one of the first science experiences young children have. Getting them outside to play and interact with nature is an important step in nurturing a lifetime of enjoyment in the outdoors. Little Beth romps through her personal playground showing how she learns the proper names and characteristics of her bird friends.

The Author: Barry Rudner has been a writer and poet of self-esteem books for children for over thirty years.

The Book: In his powerful and poignant new book Silent Voice, Rudner highlights the pandemic occurrence of autism, how it can afflict any child, and, like any malady, how it robs children of their youth, impacting families and communities everywhere. The carefully crafted verses in Rudner’s compellingly illustrated picture book vividly reveal the horror of a disease that afflicts one in eighty-eight children.

The Author: Suzanne Lieurance is an author, freelance writer, writing coach, speaker and workshop presenter. She is a former classroom teacher and was an instructor for the Institute of Children’s Literature for over 8 years.

The Book: The Locket is the story of Galena, an eleven-year-old Russian-Jewish immigrant who lives in New York City with her family and works at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory with her older sister Anya. The factory pays low wages and has terrible working conditions, making Anya yearn to join a union.

The Author: Mayra Calvani writes fiction and nonfiction for children and adults and has authored over a dozen books, some of which have won awards. Her stories, reviews, interviews and articles have appeared on numerous publications.

The Book: The Water Cycle follows the water droplets in their journey from the clouds to the earth and back to the clouds again. Written in a lyrical style, the book takes a new angle on the water cycle by showing the feelings it evokes in people.
