NJ Foundation for the Blind to Hold Annual Meeting

DENVILLE, N.J. - May 8, 2014 - PRLog -- The Board of Trustees of the 71-year old NJ Foundation for the Blind (NJFFB) of Denville will hold their Annual Meeting at Nero’s Grill in Livingston, NJ, on Monday, May 12.

NJFFB has recently embarked on a strategic plan to decentralize its operation providing adults who are blind or vision impaired greater access to its continuum of programs.  Currently, NJFFB operates a weekly program of Better Health & Wellness for the Blind in four northern New Jersey Counties: Bergen, Essex, Morris and Sussex. NJFFB is also a nonprofit leader in providing instruction in the assistive technologies of the iPhone and iPad for individuals with vision loss.

According to tradition, the meeting will update the board of trustees and the board of advisors, as well as key staff and volunteers as to new information regarding the status of vision impairment and blindness in New Jersey, as well as advances in the field of vision rehabilitation and medical breakthroughs.

According to NJFFB President Iris Torres, Carl Augusto, President and CEO of the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) will speak on national trends in vision services.  “The Foundation is honored to have Mr. Augusto, one of the most prestigious leaders in the field of blindness, participating in the annual meeting,” states Torres.   “Mr. Augusto is tireless in his advocacy for individuals with vision loss.”  Mr. Augusto also serves on NJFFB’s Board of Advisors.

The AFB has spent nearly a century ensuring that individuals who are blind or visually impaired have access to the information, technology, education, and legal resources they need to live independent and productive lives.

In addition, four new members will be inducted onto the 2014 Board of Trustees. They are: Terence J. Gunning of Basking Ridge, Chief Operating Officer of MedLabs Diagnostics; Kevin Kahn of East Brunswick, a senior human resources professional; Raj Mehta President/CEO of Infinium Polymers; and Robin J. Pearl of New York City, a senior marketing professional.

Carrying over for another term are officers, Laura Gardner-Lang, Denville and Jane Greenwald, Short Hills; and members, Michael Guarino, Denville; Jatinder Gulati, Somerset; and Sally Hudson, Long Valley.

Serving on the 2014 Board of Advisors are Carl R. Augusto, President and CEO, American Foundation for the Blind; Marshall Klein, Retired Executive Director of the Lions Eye-Bank of New Jersey; Steven A. Lang, Esq., Attorney, Pressler and Pressler LLP; Thomas M. Murphy, Attorney, The Murphy Law Firm LLC; Bruce Van Buskirk; Retired Sr. Research Scientist, Honeywell International; and
Dr. Marco Zarbin, Professor and Chair, Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, UMDNJ Medical School.
