May 8, 2014 - PRLog -- “It's all about curves and it always has been” award winning artist and furniture maker Lou Quallenberg says of his mesquite furniture. He punctuates that statement with the release of his latest piece the “Walker Curve Entry Table” 36”H x 19”W x 68” L. This unique, mesquite table features two massive mesquite curves that measure 34 inches across. You can bet these curves will show up in future pieces.

Lou Quallenberg's unusual designs have always been based on the natural curves of the mesquite tree. This new design takes curves in a different direction. These curves are created using mesquite planks that measure 84 inches in length and 12 inches in width, cut into 14 thin slices each measuring 1/16 th of an inch thick. The slices are then glued up into a specially created jig, clamped and allowed to cure for 4 days. This is a process known as lamination and the pieces produced from this process actually end up being stronger than wood that is cut and shaped into curves. Lou Quallenberg has used the lamination process for many years to create the distinctive curved bases in most of his mesquite furniture designs but this is the first time he has featured the curves front and center in the design. Lou Quallenberg continues to develop his distinctive design style into a more fluid, sculptural look with this new piece featuring two massive curves.

Why mesquite?
In 2002 lured by the slower pace and beauty of the Texas hillcountry Lou discovered this unique and difficult wood, igniting a passion and desire too fully understand its limits and capabilities. In Texas and throughout the southwest Mesquite is traditionally burned to make barbecue or used in a more rustic, unrefined manner for crafts or furniture. Since discovering mesquite Lou Quallenberg has been working to raise the level of quality, style and design of it , as well as help educate and inform the world about this useful, sustainable and domestic hardwood. Lou Quallenberg's mesquite furniture and sculptural art is both grown and hand made in Texas and therefore grown and MADE IN THE USA.

This innovative new piece demonstrates the design style and sculptural ability of it's creator while showing off the unique character, color, and beauty one can only find in the cracks and crevices of mesquite. Lou Quallenberg's constant commitment to quality both past and present proves his work to be as timeless as it is original. Real treasures for generations to come and art that functions as furniture.
