Imperial Mammoth began in bed.  When musician Laura Jane Scott lay in recovery from knee-surgery, her boyfriend and fellow singer-songwriter Leonard Jackson brought his guitar to pass the time.  Together they sang, and wrote some songs, and thought it sounded good enough to record.

It didn't take long for people to agree.  Their debut single "Requiem On Water" landed in the Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 soundtrack (certified gold), and featured in a key scene in the film.  Just a week after their own wedding, Laura and Leonard played their first show as Imperial Mammoth to 1500 fans at the Breaking Dawn premiere.

They soon followed with the EP, "Where Satellites Fall," building their fan base with over thirty placements in TV and film, including spots in Parenthood, About A Boy, Awkward, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Ragz, and Drop Dead Diva.

The band grew, and the sound got bigger.  They enlisted cutting-edge producer Nate Pyfer (Kascade, Mideau), and mixer Mark Needham (The Killers, Walk The Moon, Imagine Dragons) to actualize their biggest work to date, the new LP: Gold Confetti (out June 24th, 2014 on Bleed101 Records).

Even as the music propels them into daring territories, the eleven song album finds the band -- much like the great beasts that gave them their name -- stuck in the past.  From their fondness for Raymond Chandler's Hollywood (The Last One To Leave The Party), and the bittersweet pull of distant loves (The Limitless Hours and Mooncatcher), to their re-casting of a local crime as a mediation on villainy (Fifty-Five Fires), Imperial Mammoth is a band that can't let go.

It makes sense then that they describe the new album as a study of timeless themes.  Or, as put by Jackson, Gold Confetti is an album of "songs about love, loss, and longing -- $.099 each."

Imperial Mammoth talks about their  upcoming single “Fifty-Five Fires” --

“We live dead-center in the middle of where all this was going on.  The first night there were twenty fires, the next night another thirty.  It was mayhem. They closed off our street one night to search people driving by.  From our balcony, we saw a building go up in flames.  We thought it was a group of anarchists.  No one thought that one person could do so much damage in such a short amount of time.

When they finally got some security video of the suspect, he looked incredibly -- comically even -- like the villain in a old movie serial.  He was tall and pale, with long hair pulled back into a ponytail, and he wore a long black trench coat, and he walked with a limp.

Later when they caught him, we found out this guy Harry Burkhart was a German citizen who set out to destroy the city after his mom was deported for running a brothel.  It got us talking about villainy, and the concept that no one is the villain in their own story.  In Fifty-Five Fires we try to tell the story from both sides -- our side/the city side, and his.”

The video for Fifty-Five Fires was directed by Matt Glass -- who “built this crazy in-depth miniature city in his apartment in Pasadena and filled it with puppets”.
