About the Artists

Miles Shapiro
has been painting portraits, landscapes, and still-life for nearly four decades. Throughout the 38 years he has painted, he has never neglected the importance of the medium. He prefers to utilize oil paint for the purity and depth of its color. His work has always displayed a dramatic texture and thickness of paint applied by either brushstroke or palette knife. The work, while clearly representational, provides the viewer with an abstracted experience of strong shapes and rich colors expressing a meaning of its own. In early works he bracketed many of his paintings with solid color borders decorated with symmetrically hand-written letters to the poet Wallace Stevens. Recently he moved away from the merging of the written word with painted images, and instead elected to have his images stand alone in silence. The images are now all that addresses the viewer. Shapiro, a local Ridgefield artist, has won various awards for his work.

Daniel Charles Feldman looks both ways and then some before crossing the street. In his plein air urban vistas, he captures a spontaneous moment of American life that would be fleeting to most. Somber building textures and street veneers are punctuated with broad brushstrokes of color connecting the human spirit with manmade environments. These American genre paintings capture iconic images and moments, recasting them with a new life of emotion and nostalgia for the viewer to enjoy. Feldman has exhibited in numerous galleries in the Northeast where his work is represented in many corporate collections and in over 200 private collections.
