Choice Plumbing Inc., a Baltimore plumbing company, has just made tank water heater selection a lot simpler, with their new article "Buying a Tank Water Heater, Simplified."
In the article, the company explains that there are actually four major water heater manufacturers who make almost all the machines on the market. The main brands are Bradford White, AO Smith, Rheem, and American. Other water heater types are relabeled versions of water heaters made by these four companies. The article points out that while heaters for sale at the major retail outlets such as Home Depot are less expensive, they are usually of lower quality, as the factories use inferior parts to save money. Furthermore the warranties offered by the retail outlets are frequently shorter than those available through plumbing supply houses.
The article goes on to to look at differences between the makeup of the four major brands and recommends Bradford White, Rheem, and maybe AO Smith as the three best choices. The article also recommends buying water heaters from supply houses. Buying through supply houses may cost a few extra dollars, but the quality and warranties offered will make it worthwhile to spend the extra money.
