Total E&P (TEPNG) Champions for African Education, Educational initiative in Nigeria

MELBOURNE, Fla. - May 6, 2014 - PRLog -- Total E & P, Sustainable Development Department takes the initiative to implement The 123 of Maths in Egi Community Primary Schools in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria.

TEPNG is committed to the economic empowerment of Nigeria's people, a key factor toward sustainable development.  TEPNG is participating in laying the groundwork for a better quality of life in Nigeria: for human development, health, infrastructural development and agriculture.

Total E&P Sustainable Development Department has joined the fight against mass failure in education.  In 2013 they began an incentive to raise the standards in education at the primary school level. Students and teachers are in desperate need of modern methods of instruction and teaching aids that build proficiency in mathematics. There is currently an epidemic of mass failure Nigeria in the subjects of English and Mathematics that has persisted for over a decade. There has been mass failure in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for several years. In 2013 only 29% of Nigerian students who sat for the exams obtained a passing score.

In keeping with their policy of building self-reliance and raising the standards of living today and tomorrow, TEPNG has taken the initiative to combat mass failure with The 123 of Maths. The 123 of Maths is an instructional learning system that has been implemented in Egi Community Primary Schools in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The program is a key component in a series of initiatives that will build future talent within the region, encourage Nigerian entrepreneurship and enterprise development.

Education is the foundation to empowerment and sustainable development in any economy. In support of educational development in Nigeria TEPNG has donated equipment, conducted a teacher’s workshop and delivered The 123 of Maths instructional learning materials and teaching aids to several schools in the Egi community.

The 123 of Maths is an interactive and innovative teaching aid that is designed to build math proficiency using indigenous cultural norms, real life video demonstrations and graphics to teach basic level mathematics to primary school children. This is one of the many initiatives that TEPNG has implemented to build a well-educated future workforce that will lead to stronger partnerships and opportunities in higher-level management positions within the oil industry.
