Twin Cities Spinal Cord Society goal to cure chronic paralysis

MINNEAPOLIS - May 7, 2014 - PRLog -- The Twin Cities Chapter of the Spinal Cord Society (SCS-TC), headquartered in Inver Grove Heights, today announced the schedule for the first of several 2014 fundraising events, the “Spring Golf Tournament”, to be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at the Oak Glen Golf Club in Stillwater, MN. “2014 is the 25th Anniversary of this terrific tournament”, said Jeff Toby, official tournament coordinator. “We are looking forward to a bigger and better event than ever.”  SCS-TC, whose goal is to fund and find a cure for chronic spinal cord injury, raised $21K at the Spring 2013 event, and has targeted $25K for our 25th as its goal for 2014. ‘We’re looking for additional event sponsors. There can never be too many”, said Toby, “and we need more auction prizes (like resort stays, fishing or golf getaways, spa gift certificates, tickets to sporting events, airline tickets, art prints, homemade gift baskets, etc.) as well.”

He continued: “The public is welcome to join us, to sign up for the golf/dinner scramble is $120 which includes a cart.  Spectating is free, and for only $30, participate in the dinner event following the golf.  This year will include an exciting “first” for us, dinner will be highlighted by a speech from Dr. Ann Parr of University of Minnesota, one of our “collaborative” partners!   We welcome everyone’s participation.”

“In addition to this ever-popular season kickoff golfing fundraiser,” stated Mike Janssen, Chapter President, “shortly we’ll be announcing details for all our 2014 fund raising events.  With our new emphasis on creating increased public awareness, we plan to add to our corporate sponsorships, increase overall fundraising event participation, and grow the amount of money raised for our research.”

SCS, an organization entirely supported by donations and the work of volunteers, funds its own research looking for a cure for chronic spinal cord injuries. Spinal cord injuries currently impact over a million Americans, with over 12,000 newly injured each year.  “It’s imperative for our continued research that we maximize the value of our fundraising events”, continued Janssen. “To achieve that and to create the highest possible public awareness and participation, SCS-TC is planning to significantly increase outreach through a year-long campaign of information output and funding events.   We want to direct people to our website (http://www.scstwincities.org) for more information on who we are and what we’re doing, and encourage them join us in our work for a cure.”

The Spinal Cord Society, founded in 1978, pursues the goal of finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. National SCS is headquartered in Fergus Falls, MN.
