LOS ANGELES - May 6, 2014 - PRLog -- Social Media Club Los Angeles (SMCLA), a non-profit, volunteer-based professional organization comprised of social media, digital marketing, content development, and public relations (PR) practitioners throughout Southern California, today announced it will host an informative seminar and networking event on the roles of social media and technology in the education sector on Tues., May 20, 2014, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m., at NextSpace Los Angeles (http://nextspace.us/nextspace-los-angeles/) in Culver City.

The affair, entitled “You Got Schooled! The Role of Social Media in Education,” will be highlighted by a panel discussion featuring highly-experienced education technology and social media thought leaders. The panel consists of Pearl Arredondo, a sixth-grade teacher and founder of the San Fernando Institute for Applied Media (SFiAM), the first pilot middle school established in the L.A. Unified School District (LAUSD); Eric DeSobe, associate director for teaching and leadership development at KIPP LA Schools, a network of free public charter elementary and middle schools in Los Angeles; Otto Khera, senior manager of USC’s Center for Scholarly Technology; and Beverly Macy, university professor and social media author and consultant. Clint Schaff, vice president and general manager of DARE, and an adjunct professor of communications at USC’s prestigious Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, will be the moderator.
