Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort President Kevin Stickelman Wins 2014 Sammy Leadership Award

LAS VEGAS - May 6, 2014 - PRLog -- On Friday, May 2, Kevin Stickelman, president and general manager of the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (http://www.skilasvegas.com/winter/index.html), received a 2014 SAMMY Leadership Award from Ski Area Management (SAM) magazine, a professional trade publication for the mountain resort market, at an awards ceremony in Savannah, Georgia. The awards are given annually to individuals whom the publication thinks will have a significant impact on the future of the mountain resort industry. First nominated by peers in the industry, Stickelman was one of four industry leaders nationwide to receive the recognition. This is the 17th year that the magazine has given the award.

“SAMMYs was started in 1998 as a way to celebrate our leaders and trendsetters of the next 10 to 20 years, or more. These are the people we look to now and in the future for leadership across the industry,” says Olivia Rowan, publisher of SAM magazine.

Stickelman assumed leadership of LVSSR in 2010. In addition to overseeing all operations, he has been instrumental in executing the resort’s Master Development Plan. The $35 million expansion includes plans for an additional 34 trails, at least six more lifts, more snowmaking capability, upgraded equipment and enhanced guest facilities. When complete, the development will boost the local economy, increasing winter employment at the resort from 220 to 600 and year-round employment from 10 to 30.

Stickelman began skiing in Missouri at 10 years old through a school field trip program with a local ski area and was instantly hooked on the sport. He started his career in the ski industry as a ski instructor at Park City, Utah, LVSSR’s sister resort, nearly 15 years ago. Since then he’s held titles such as ski school director at Angel Fire Resort in Angel Fire, N.M., director of skier services at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Mont. and director of guest experience at Mt. Bachelor in Bend, Ore.
