SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - May 5, 2014 - PRLog -- On Tuesday evening, May 6, estate planning and elder law attorney David Edwards, founder of Edwards Group LLC - an estate planning and elder law firm in Springfield, Illinois - will be presenting a Life Care Planning workshop at Rochester First Baptist Church at 6 Vernon Drive in Rochester. The workshop will be held from 6:30-8:30 pm with plenty of time to ask the attorney questions.

Life Care Planning is a new concept in the estate planning field, developed because people are living a lot longer these days. Estate planning is no longer only about death. In addition to traditional post-death estate planning, a holistic approach to planning can help people, and their loved ones, get the best possible care during the last decade of life. This type of planning also offers assistance with finding the best ways to pay for care.

Good holistic planning requires people to look ahead to the various stages that occur towards the end of life - each stage having its own unique goals, pitfalls, concerns and challenges. With the help of an experieneced estate planning and elder law attorney, the stress and cost of the later years can be eliminated or greatly reduced.

Tuesday evening's workshop will cover the 6 stages of life care planning, helping participants identify which one they or their loved ones may be in, and what needs to be done in each stage to make sure the end of life is as good as it can be. The 6 stages of life care planning are:

•Healthy - more than 5 years out from needing help

•Not as healthy as you used to be - may need care or assistance within the next 5 years

•Needing a little help - maybe light housework or meal prep

 •Declining but still at home

 •Declining and in assisted living

•In crisis - hospital or nursing home
