CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - May 2, 2014 - PRLog -- On April 25, 2014, North Carolina Social Security Disability advocates from Golson, McCracken Inc. participated in the Foothills Homeless Veterans Stand Down event that was held in Hickory, North Carolina. At the gathering, the advocates from Golson, McCracken Inc. provided veterans with helpful information about the process of filing for Social Security Disability benefits. The event, which was hosted by the Veterans Transitional Advocacy Board, offered homeless veterans a broad range of provisions and services, such as food, clothing, outdoor supplies, tax assistance, employment counseling, community resources and more.

The event included a ceremony in which attending dignitaries, volunteers and others honored the veterans with cheers as they marched in. The ceremony also included the pledge of allegiance, the singing of the National Anthem and the presentation of colors. At the event, attendees were served breakfast and a lunch that included barbecue. Golson, McCracken Inc.’s representatives answered veterans’ questions about the Social Security Disability filing process. The representatives encountered many veterans who had previously been denied disability benefits, despite the fact that they had rightfully earned this support from their government through their time serving their country.

The team at Golson, McCracken Inc. considered it an amazing experience to be able to give back to the men and women who have sacrificed their own safety for the American people. The event also provided the team with the opportunity to meet some highly notable individuals who are making a major impact on the lives of veterans on an ongoing basis. This included a representative of a shelter that provides long-term transitional housing and other services to female veterans who don’t have homes, a retired Army and Air Force Chaplain who meets weekly with veterans and provides them with spiritual guidance, a Blue Star Mother who offers various services to help struggling veterans get back to a place of stability, and many others. The Foothills Homeless Veterans Stand Down event demonstrated how a community can come together and support its veterans in need.
