The 3rd Annual Ujima Awards Celebration

May 2, 2014 - PRLog -- NEW JERSEY - Unsung heroes exist throughout communities committing noble acts of courage with little recognition or acknowledgement. For the third year the Ujima Awards presents a ceremony that honors the loyalty and dedication of change agents with a focus on males in our communities. When speaking in regards to the ceremony, Co- Founder, Lauren Jackson stated, “Aristotle once stated that ‘excellence is not an act but a habit’, we are striving to continue the developing a habit of excellence by thanking, saluting, and supporting the community through the Ujima Awards.”

This year, the ceremony will focus on honoring individuals whose contributions are a direct reflection of collective work and responsibility; the definition of Ujima. These selfless persons are committed to building and maintaining urban communities. This year nominations expanded beyond New Jersey and New York and  included individuals located in Ohio, Boston, Atlanta, and Connecticut. “We are excited for this year as we grow things it give us the opportunity to change things up!” shared cop-founder Krystle Davis in regards to having upcoming programing, workshops, and award two recipients for one category. Honorees have be revealed for the following categories:

Award for Professional Development - Bobbi Hampton

Award for Community Excellence- Black Celebrity Giving

Award for Political Activism -Hon. Tiffany M. Williams

Award for Youth Involvement - The Black Man Can & The Role Model Group

In efforts to reach its fullest potential, communities much celebrate and encourage those who continue to make it a better place for the individuals who reside in it. Sean Christopher, Co-Founder of Ujima Awards, stated “I believe it is imperative, as a leader in the community, to acknowledge those who are responsible for collectively coming together to make our communities better. For the past 2 years, it has been our responsibility to lay the foundation as a pillar in the communities and we want to ensure we uphold that position.”

The 3rd Annual Ujma Awards will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at South Orange Performing Arts Center, South Orange Performing Arts Center, located at One SOPAC Way in South Orange, New Jersey. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased http://www.UjimaAwards.com

Titled after the third principle of Kwanzaa, Ujima, meaning collective work and responsibility, this ceremony will serve as a platform of celebration of individuals as well as organizations for their relentless and selfless service to build and maintain communities. In addition, we want to recognize their commitment to personifying and resolving the tribulations of the individuals.
