iFlightPlanner for iPad v2.1 is “Cleared as filed!”

By: iFlightPlanner

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - May 5, 2014 - PRLog -- iFlightPlanner announced that iFlightPlanner for iPad v2.1, the second major update to iFlightPlanner for iPad presented by Sennheiser, is now available for download on the App Store.  Featured in this release are several features that were the direct result of pilot feedback the iFlightPlanner Crew received at SUN 'n FUN last month; namely recently issued ATC routes, range rings, extended runway centerlines, pages from the FAA's printed Airport/Facility Directories and an all-new aircraft location icon.

Recently Issued Air Traffic Control (ATC) Routes

For pilots aching to hear the words, “Cleared as filed,” routes issued by air traffic control within the past thirty (30) days are now available on iFlightPlanner.com as well as in iFlightPlanner for iPad.  Pilots have the ability to search for and view a list of routes that they are likely to receive clearance for based on their departure and destination airports.  In addition to the specific waypoints and SID/STARs for each route, iFlightPlanner includes the number of times that route has been issued, the date and time of last issuance and the altitude range for aircraft flying that route.

Range Rings & Extended Runway Centerlines

Range rings and extended runway centerlines are now available as map overlays in iFlightPlanner for iPad.  By tapping the overlays button at the top right of the map view, pilots can toggle each new feature on/off, giving them helpful visuals that enhance situational awareness in the cockpit.  The range rings automatically size based on the current zoom level and runway extensions are visible for any airports that are part of a current route at appropriate zoom levels.

Sectional Chart Improvements

In response to the recently updated AeroNav chart format, the iFlightPlanner Crew completely overhauled its proprietary chart processing software, resulting in higher resolution chart tiles and more accurate georeferencing.  The new chart imagery for sectional and TAC charts were released with the May 1, 2014 data cycle and are also available at http://www.iFlightPlanner.com/AviationCharts, iFlightPlanner’s freely accessible charts resource.

FAA "Green Book" A/FD Pages

The official Airport/Facility Directory pages from the FAA's infamous "Green Books" are now available as part of the Airport Diagrams download in the app.  The new PDF pages will be the first document available on the Documents & Frequencies section of the Airports tab in iFlightPlanner for iPad, and are also available for all airports listed in the FAA's printed A/FD at http://www.iFlightPlanner.com/Airports.

Aircraft Location Icon

By popular request, the iFlightPlanner Crew created an all-new aircraft location icon designed to increase the visibility of one’s location on the map in iFlightPlanner for iPad.  The new icon features a transparent white circle around the aircraft location icon and a pulsating blue ring.

“We are extremely excited to have iFlightPlanner for iPad v2.1 here already,“ said Andy Matthews, iFlightPlanner’s Co-Founder & Director of Business Development.  “We talked with pilots at SUN ‘n FUN how the all-new design of the app created the perfect foundation to release new features without forcing them to relearn how they use iFlightPlanner, and the new features we are introducing as part of iFlightPlanner for iPad v2.1 are a testament to that.”

To promote the release of iFlightPlanner for iPad v2.1, iFlightPlanner is offering their annual Premium memberships for only $69.99 through June 1.  iFlightPlanner Premium memberships include the new in-app flight planning functionality with recently issued ATC routes and access to iFlightPlanner’s cloud-based flight planning technology across all of its platforms.  iFlightPlanner Free memberships are available with no obligation and allow pilots to leverage much of iFlightPlanner’s web-based technology with limited, read-only functionality on the iPad.  A one-time, 30-day free trial to iFlightPlanner Premium is also available via the App Store.

For more information, pilots are encouraged to visit ttp://www.iFlightPlanner.com or search for ‘iFlightPlanner’ in the App Store.
