WOKINGHAM, U.K. - May 1, 2014 - PRLog -- The club is actually rather informal, and consists of around 30 members. But the club is famous for carrying out plenty of good work to help the local community, especially those in great need. Every year, the club organises and runs the May Fayre. This particular event is what they are most famous for, and people travel to it from miles around.

This year the event is larger then it has ever been before. Over the previous two years the club has expanded the size and the scope of the event, to accommodate the growing interest. The event happens every year, and has been doing so since 1996. The event takes place on the first May bank holiday, and happens in the town centre of Wokingham. Essentially, it’s a day of fun and frolics, and also certain cultural aspects that help the people of Wokingham understand their roots, and the culture that shapes their town.

The Lions Club sees the event as something that is low-cost and is open to all people who want to raise money in whichever way they see fit. This means plenty of fund raising activities going on, alongside a lot of fun in quite a dynamic atmosphere.

Biggest event

Because of the size of the event, it is widely believed to be the biggest street event in the south of England. On average, it is estimated that around 20,000 people attend the event for that one day every year. This is a huge amount of people to have in such a small area, and it leads to a very lively and fun atmosphere.

The work involved in the May Fayre is not everything when it comes to the Lions Club. They do a fantastic amount of charitable work, and a list of charities they have been involved in is a long and prestigious one. They have helped to fundraise for organisations as diverse as the local scouts club, and the citizen’s advice bureau. All of their charity work shares one keynote, that the people being helped are those who are in need and can make best use of the money the Lions manage to raise. Therefore, a scout group makes sense so that future generations can have clear benefits today. The citizens advice work helps people in need outside of the legal system, and is therefore a worthy cause.

The Lions Club also holds balls and other charity events that enable them to continue to help others. The club has a prestigious reputation in the Wokingham area, and this is mainly due to the fact that they carry out all of this work in a positive and proactive manner. It seems as if nothing is beyond them when it comes to fundraising.
