PRLog - May 1, 2014 - HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Lake Norman Pet Sitting and their clients helped provide three harness systems for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Special Operations K9 Unit.   It all started when Leanne Kinsella, a Huntersville client of Lake Norman Pet Sitting approached President Paulette DeRonda saying she had seen an organization on the news who needed bullet proof vests.  Kinsella and DeRonda decided rather than raise funds for a national organization based out west, to reach out to local police departments specifically those with SWAT K9 units to see if there was a need.

Officer Matt Yoder of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) called  mentioning that while they had a generous donation last year from a Charlotte corporation and were “all set” on bullet proof vests for the Canine unit, two of the dogs were in desperate need of harness systems that the canines wear when going into dangerous situations. Yoder explained that the harness systems are expensive since they are manufactured and tailored specifically to the needs of the CMPD Canine Unit.

Yoder said “Interested?” to which DeRonda and Kinsella responded “We’re on it!” and the two set out to raise donations with a goal of having the $1,400 funds raised by April 30th.  Mid-way through April, DeRonda and Kinsella contacted Yoder to share the exciting news that the donations had flooded in and they had in fact exceeded the goal raising $1,585.  “This is exciting,” expressed DeRonda.  “I have two rescue German Shepherds of my own, Daisy and Delgado, so the thought of helping the dogs, several of whom are German Shepherds inspired me.”

“Our budget does not allow us to go out and buy these harnesses at $600 a piece,” added Officer Matt Yoder.  “So when local companies reach out to support us it makes a big impact. These harness systems are specifically designed to allow our dog teams to perform all tasks to support every unit within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. We are grateful to our supporters,” said Yoder.

The harnesses are being designed by Remington Arms K-9 out of Charlotte.
