These unique and innovative programs utilize retired War Horses, which are Thoroughbred racehorses from Finger Lakes Race Track who have won more than $100,000 or raced more than 50 times. The Thoroughbred Advancement Programs pairs the horses with youth at-risk, or adults rebuilding their lives after abuse, incarceration or addictions rehabilitation. The War Horse And Warriors Program is a program for the supportive reintegration of Veterans returning home from combat, and the families of Veterans. Both programs use a combination of unmounted and mounted activities based upon Equine Facilitated Learning and Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy philosophies.
These programs are facilitated by Colleen Cheechalk and Allyson Cheechalk, certifiedEquine Specialists in Equine Facilitated Learning and Psychotherapy. Trained volunteers assist in the sessions as mentors.
