ICD-10 Root Operations Flash Cards used by Good Samaritan Hospital for ICD-10 Transition

“An excellent supplement to our ICD-10 preparation training”
By: Libman Education

BEDFORD, Mass. - April 30, 2014 - PRLog -- To better prepare for the ICD-10 transition, Good Samaritan Hospital – consistently ranked in the top 10 percent in the nation in patient satisfaction – has purchased Libman Education’s ICD-10 Root Operations Flash Cards for all of its medical coding staff. ICD-10 is the new code set proposed to replace the current ICD-9 code set.

This set of nine cards has been in high demand since its release. The full color cards are double-sided and laminated. Each root operation is defined and an example provided.  Similar root operations are grouped together so that the subtle differences are more easily understood. The flash cards help coders to learn the ICD-10 root operations quickly and to understand how to identify each in a medical record.

“The ICD-10 flash cards are an excellent supplement to our ICD-10 preparation training,” said Wendy Mangin, MS, RHIA, Director of Health Information at Good Samaritan Hospital. “In the world of medical coding, efficiency is very important. And the cards are conducive to efficiency: they make learning easier, and they fit on our coders’ desks for quick reference.”

Each ICD-10 flash card emphasizes a different group of root operations. The set includes root operations that:

- take out some or all of a body part
- take out solids/fluids/gases from a body part
- involve cutting or separation only
- put in/put back or move some/all of a body part
- alter the diameter/route of a tubular body part
- always involve a device
- involve examination only
- define other repairs
- define other objectives
