ScottMadden Releases Survey Results Focused on Distributed Resources – What’s on the Horizon?

ATLANTA - April 29, 2014 - PRLog -- cottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, recently released survey results focused on distributed resources. Utility industry professionals shared their sentiment in three main areas: 1) timing of the potential threat posed to utilities by distributed resources, 2) growth of distributed resources without incentives, and 3) whether net-metering rules should be revisited. The highlights provided below examine what professionals view as the threats and opportunities associated with distributed generation.

When asked about the timing of the potential threat posed to utilities by distributed resources, the majority of survey respondents, 59 percent, replied that the potential threat is likely to come in two to five years. Impacts in five or more years ranked second, receiving 38 percent of responses.

As for growth, 85 percent of respondents saw continued growth of distributed resources without incentives. Thirty-one percent expected this growth to be rapid, while 54 percent saw it as modest.

Additionally, of those surveyed, 89 percent believe that today’s net-metering rules should be revisited.
