American Conference on Diversity Named a Finalist in the NJBiz 2014 Healthcare Heroes Awards Program

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - April 29, 2014 - PRLog -- The American Conference on Diversity is honored to be selected an “Education Hero Organization” finalist by NJBiz in the 2014 Healthcare Heroes Awards program.

An independent panel of judges evaluated the nominations and selected finalists in 10 categories: Education Hero Individual, Education Hero Organization, Healthcare Professional of the Year, Hospital of the Year, Innovation Hero, Nurse of the Year, Physician of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Women’s Health and Wellness Hero, and Workplace Wellness Hero. The finalists will be recognized and the winner within each category announced during a breakfast awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24.

“We are truly honored to have been chosen a finalist for this distinguished award,” says American Conference on Diversity President and CEO Elizabeth Williams-Riley. “The support our organization has received over the years to bridge the health disparities gap has allowed us to work with hundreds of New Jersey’s healthcare professionals and provide quality trainings that enhance cultural competency and promote respect of people of different races, cultures, languages, and religions.”

To date, the American Conference on Diversity has worked with more than 80 percent of acute healthcare facilities throughout the state to fulfill this mission. The organization’s signature healthcare-training programs include:

►Health Equity Conference: Improving the Quality and Safety of Care for Diverse Patient Populations, which explores the relationship between health literacy and health equity and what health professionals can do to foster more health-literate organizations. This full-day cultural-competency training features nationally recognized speakers and presenters on current critical issues, such as effective communications, faith-based end of life practices, and more. The 2014 Healthcare Equity Conference will be held Wednesday, November 12, at the New Jersey Hospital Association Conference Center in Princeton, NJ.

Healthcare Cultural Competency Train the Trainer is another full-day skills-building program designed for healthcare professionals with the responsibility for staff education that provides critical tools and information needed to building culturally respectful and competent healthcare environments. Train the Trainer is a continuing nursing education activity approved for 6.25 contact hours by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers COA. The 2014 program will be conducted on Friday, October 17, also at the New Jersey Hospital Association Conference Center in Princeton.
