PRLog - Apr. 28, 2014 - CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Corpus Christi Songwriters has been on a mission to spread the interest in original music around Corpus Christi and its surrounding areas. Partnering with House of Rock (511 Starr St), the Corpus Christi Songwriters Series was born, and will now be held on the second Sunday of every month on the small stage, creating an intimate environment welcoming new and seasoned songwriters to share their songs with an attentive and engaged audience.
Corpus Christi Songwriters
Local singer/songwriter Jimmy Willden created the original group in January of 2014 with the vision of inviting all songwriters, or those interested in the process, to monthly meet-ups to discuss music, show off new songs, collaborate and jam. Since, the group has evolved into a Series / Showcase and an open stage event (but only open to those with original songs). “Ever since I learned my first two chords on guitar, I’ve written my own songs,” said Willden. “While I do enjoy listening to an artist’s reinterpretation of someone else’s song(s), I have always been driven to support original music more than anything else, especially here in the Coastal Bend.”
That drive is shared by several songwriters and performers in South Texas, including the group Hope & Hostility, who will be hosting the series. The format is simple: each songwriter is allowed to perform two songs (they can be new songs, or old songs, but they must be ORIGINAL songs). Once everyone has shared their songs, stories and inspirations behind them, the cycle will begin again.
The next showcase will be held on Sunday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at House of Rock. For more information on the series, visit www.facebook.com/
