PRLog - April 27, 2014 - GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Winning in the workplace, whether leading a team or sharing ideas in a board meeting, requires effective communication. WFMY’s 2 Wants to Know asked body language expert, author and keynote presenter Blanca Cobb to share a few basic techniques to create engagement and responsiveness during meetings.

“One thing about cohesion and collaboration is you want to draw people in, and you can do that with your body language,” said Cobb. Gauging people, showing them that you are listening and you want to hear what they have to say starts at the head. Impassive facial expressions or robotic movements send a very different impression. “If I tilt (my head) on occasion and nod, then I'm encouraging you to share ideas. I'm encouraging you to talk to me.”
Cobb, who regularly conducts keynote presentations and executive training programs on nonverbal communication and leadership, went on to say that when there are people who are somewhat unresponsive in your meeting, consider using an underused technique — smiling. “People don’t realize the value of a smile. Again, if you're sharing information and ideas, you're going to stop if you get the impression that what you say is not important to me or what you have to say I don't value,” Cobb stated using a stoic facial expression, “verses if I smile on occasion, because that's showing that I'm with you. I see what you're talking about, please continue.”
