ESCONDIDO, Calif. - April 25, 2014 - PRLog -- On Saturday, April 26th from 10am – 3pm HiCaliber Horse Rescue will be opening its doors to the public as a part of ASPCA’s 2nd Annual Help a Horse Day. This Open House will build awareness of the plight of Southern California’s abused and neglected horses and show how HiCaliber is helping to save these horses while also supporting local horse owners facing difficult times. The Day will include tours of HiCaliber Horse Rescue, meet and greet with some of the amazing success stories and new arrivals, and informative clinics aimed to help horse owners and rescuers.

Many of HiCaliber’s rescues will be available to greet guests on Saturday. One such rescue is “Solar” (registered “Solarplex”), a former racehorse found emaciated by Riverside Animal Control and brought to HiCaliber for rehabilitation. Thanks to HiCaliber’s tireless team of medical professionals and dedicated volunteer staff, Solar survived starvation and formed a unique bond with the founder’s young son, Ajay, who is autistic. Solar, who will soon be up for adoption, is a gentle giant and dramatic example of the strength and spirit of HiCaliber’s rescues. Also ready for their close-ups will be Johnny who also arrived extremely starved, a new pregnant mare recently saved from being purchased for slaughter, and many others.

“The majority of our rescues have been tragically failed by humans. They’ve been abused, neglected, given up on and thrown away – something many of us can relate to,” shared Michelle Cochran, founder of HiCaliber. “We go to great lengths to show these horses that compassionate, understanding and kind people do exist. It’s an amazing gift, to take part in helping horses forgive, trust and overcome their fears. That’s the magic of HiCaliber… we set out to help horses and in turn heal ourselves.”

HiCaliber has been privileged to become a critical resource for San Diego equines in distress and its work would not be possible without the overwhelming community support, both local and worldwide, who follow the horses’ stories on Facebook. For event schedule: www.HiCaliber.org/helpahorseday

About HiCaliber Horse Rescue, Inc.

Founded in 2013 by Michelle Cochran, an animal control officer who had been rescuing privately for more than ten years, HiCaliber Horse Rescue is dedicated to the protection and rescue of abandoned and abused horses while emphasizing community education, encouraging compassion and supporting responsible owners. HiCaliber Horse Rescue saves horses from extreme neglect, horses in jeopardy, and those who belong to someone who can no longer keep them and are in need of an immediate safe haven. We rescue from auction, from local shelters, off of Craigslist postings, through owner surrenders and in partnership with other reputable rescue organizations. HiCaliber is currently a safe haven to nearly 50 rescued horses, more than 40 of which are in various stages of rehabilitation, adoption or have been welcomed in as part of HiCaliber’s innovative Owner Support Programs. www.HiCaliber.org and www.facebook.com/HiCaliberHorseRescue
