The annual fundraising event benefits two of Frisco’s outstanding high school seniors each with a $1,000 college scholarship. Through the Frisco Education Foundation, applications are put through a selection process that evaluates students based on academic performance, involvement in extracurricular activities, volunteerism and community service. Congressman Sam Johnson (R-TX) will give out the awards to the recipients in honor of his wife, Shirley Melton Johnson, at the event.
"Our annual Shirley Melton Johnson Scholarship Luncheon honors two graduating students from Frisco, one from Denton County and one from Collin County,” said Terri Miller, President of FARW. “We thank the Frisco Education Foundation for supplying us with such great qualified applicants."
The 12th Annual Shirley Melton Johnson Scholarship Luncheon also will feature a silent auction. According to FARW Scholarship chair Whitney Newman Brubaker, local businesses play a key role in the success of the annual fundraising event. “FARW relies on the support of the local business community in providing items for the silent auction. It’s a terrific way for local companies to promote their business to residents in our community,” added Newman Brubaker.
