April 24, 2014 - PRLog -- National barbecue month is just around the corner and one of St. Louis’ number one spots for barbecue has a full schedule of events for the city to indulge in. The Rib Shack restaurant  has become as synonymous to St. Louis as Cardinal baseball. People from around the country including many celebrities are making it a priority to stop into the nationally recognized Rib Shack for a taste of their homemade St. Louis-style cooking that everyone is buzzing about.

Jackie Robbins and her husband opened up the first Rib Shack two years ago and they already have a thriving downtown location that has become a hotspot after the Cardinal and Rams games by patrons and players.   Since St. Louis is known for its Barbecue, Robbins already knows that many people will be flooding into the city this coming month. She wants to make sure that everyone who stops by the Rib Shack also get a chance to participate in the community initiatives that she supports.

“I think it’s wonderful that our restaurants have become some of the top barbecue and soul food places in the city and I want to utilize that popularity to bring awareness to the issues that I care about such as children’s needs and homelessness. I partnered up with the organization #Hashtaglunchbagstl to distribute food to our homeless population here in St. Louis. It’s important for us as a community to help those in need and I am grateful that the creator of #Hashtaglunchbagstl   reached out to me.

Shaniece Mahone has always been involved in “stopping hunger” initiatives. Upon learning of #HashtagLunchbag in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta; the need for involvement in the St. Louis area was unquestionable for her. She kicked off her first local #Hashtaglunchbagstl on Sunday January 26, 2014. “I reached out to Jackie because I knew that the Rib Shack was very community oriented. She came onboard and has been very hands on. We have a goal to feed ten thousand people in need in the next few months,” said Mahone.

Mahone went on to add that, “the need for such a movement in the St. Louis metropolitan area is absolutely important due to the large number of homeless people in the city. Thousands of people go hungry every day in our area. Some may not be homeless, they may just not be able to afford food. There are children in our city that go to bed malnourished. This epidemic goes beyond politics and I feel that it comes down to those in the community to step up and become involved where they are able.”

#Hashtaglunchbagstl will be held every last Saturday of the month. Robbins and Mahone encourage more restaurants and businesses to become involved. Robbins will also have a slew of activities lined up in May and all year around for her loyal patrons. Everyone can stop into the Rib Shack locations to keep up with Jackie and find out about participating in #Hashtaglunchbagstl.
