New bivy, gaiter, backpack, duffel designs are standouts in S14 Outdoor Research accessory line

Helium Bivy provides ultimate minimalist shelter, Flex-Tex II Gaiters improved, Rangefinder Collection offers retro feel with technical features.

PRLog - Apr. 24, 2014 - SEATTLE, Wash. – The Outdoor Research name is synonymous with innovation thanks to a history of outdoor accessories that either created new categories entirely or set the bar very clearly as best in class. For Spring 2014, OR continues to innovate in longstanding categories like shelter, gaiters, backpacks, commuter and travel bags, as well as the fast-growing arena of outdoor protection for touchscreen devices.

Helium Bivy –Made from the same fabric as the popular and trusted Helium II jacket, the Helium Bivy is the lightest in the Outdoor Research collection, weighing in at a mere 18 ounces for a fully waterproof/breathable shelter (16 ounces without single overhead pole). A no-nonsense clamshell design paired with fully waterproof/breathable Pertex Shield fabric make the Helium Bivy ideal for minimalists on fast-and-light solo missions. Details include a 70-denier floor, No-See-Um Netting at the opening to keep out bugs, and straps to hold sleeping pads in place. $169.

Flex-Tex II Gaiters – Whether protecting against scree, snow or ice, the Flex Tex II Gaiters are a shorter-cut soft-shell gaiter offering just the right amount of protection in alpine environments. Made with durable, nylon-spandex Cordura fabric, the Flex Tex II builds on the iconic Outdoor Research gaiter of the same name with a more fully featured, updated version than the original Flex Tex. Entry and exit uses an offset closure, and a single draw cord on the back tightens the gaiter using an X pattern for the cord to run through both the inside and outside of the gaiter, so it’s incredibly effective at reducing volume and providing precise fit. The instep strap employs a durable BioThane material. $54.

Sparkplug Gaiters – Ultralight gaiters for trail running, the Sparkplug Gaiters are designed for the minimalist who wants everything you need in a gaiter and nothing more – and all at an affordable price. On the Sparkplug, the nylon-spandex fabric provides the perfect balance of water resistance, breathability, and wicking characteristics to shield shoes and socks from trail debris, light rain and snow. A single attachment hook makes the Sparkplug quick and easy to affix to an array of lighter trail shoes. $20.

Rangefinder Collection – Melding a retro cotton canvas/leather feel with modern technical design, including RF-welded seams and waterproof fabric, the Rangefinder Collection offers five different bags and packs for differing situations from the daily commute to adventure travel, including a messenger bag, backpack, seabag, duffel and a sensor case for touchscreen tablets and electronics. Design starts with a polyester fabric that looks like a cotton canvas but is actually fully waterproof. Synthetic leather patches provide accents and retain straps and buckles where they are easily accessible.

Hoist Pack – At 10 liters, the Hoist pack holds everything you need for a light-and-fast day on the trail, and it won’t weight you down. Featuring a unique radial opening, the Hoist is built with a lightweight 70-denier nylon fabric, with burlier 210-denier material on the bottom and sides. Details include breathable mesh shoulder harnesses, hydration compatibility, an ice axe loop, external pockets and a place to clip your keys. $59.

Antimatter Pack – Whether you need a light summit pack that you stuff into a larger backpack for the trip into the mountains, or a fully functional pack that takes up very little space in your carry-on, reach for the Antimatter Pack. This 18-liter pack combines stuff-sack weight with a design that stuffs into one of its own pockets so you’ve always got a pack that’s up to the task, whether it’s a hike on the beach or a snowy summit day, when you get where you’re going. Airy mesh shoulder straps maintain breathability, while side compression straps help stabilize the internal load, and two mesh water-bottle pockets keep hydration accessible. An added bonus, it converts to a tote bag so you’ve got a way to haul groceries or an extra carry-on bag for the plane. $75.

Antimatter Duffel – Sometimes you go on a trip only to find you’ve got more stuff that you came with – and no way to get it home. Enter the Antimatter Duffel, a duffel made from light 30-denier fabric which packs down into its own pocket, so it’s always there when you need it. It can also be worn as a backpack, which adds cross-functionality. Available in 30- and 45-liter sizes. $65. $79.

About Outdoor Research
Outdoor Research® is Designed by Adventure®. We provide Innovation and Inspiration for the Relentless Adventurer. Based in Seattle – with in-house manufacturing and prototyping capabilities at our company headquarters – Outdoor Research was founded in 1981 after a failed piece of gear on an Alaskan climbing expedition inspired ideas for a better design. Ever since that first product, the X-Gaiter, put Outdoor Research on the map, we have been dedicated to building better outdoor apparel, gloves, hats and an array of other outdoor accessories informed by real-world testing. We develop innovative, functional, bomb-proof products that are beautiful in their simplicity. Design abides by the maxim ‘make it better, not just new or different,’ and our gear is backed by our Infinite Guarantee®. We listen to, value and empower each other and our fellow adventurers – we invite input from our customers, athlete ambassadors and the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations Test Team. We’re independent, letting us strive to provide the best value to our customers, not shareholders. We are committed to our core sports: alpinism, rock and ice climbing, hiking, backpacking, paddling, trail running, and skiing and snowboarding. We’re growing, as a company and as individuals. And we’re having fun along the way.
