NEW YORK - April 23, 2014 - PRLog -- DirectWomen Alumna Carol Robles-Román is the newly appointed President and CEO of Legal Momentum, a nonprofit which advances the rights of women and girls through legal action and innovative public policy and focuses on poverty, workplace rights, the justice system and education. Robles-Román is an expert in public advocacy and has extensive experience in anti-bias and anti-discrimination litigation.

She has dedicated her legal career to the advancement of economic justice, freedom from gender-based violence and equality under the law. During her 12-year tenure as Deputy Mayor for Legal Affairs and Counsel to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, she led reform efforts that improved public access to justice and city services. She oversaw several city agencies and advised the Mayor and the executive branch on policy issues including judicial selection, compliance and enforcement of anti-discrimination laws, disability and access laws, domestic violence and immigration.

Robles-Román began her legal career as a corporate lawyer and later joined the public sector where she held several executive posts including Special Counsel to then Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman. A strong advocate of education and mentoring, she serves on the board of the National Association of Women Lawyers, as a trustee of the City University of New York where she is a member of the Fiscal Committee, Fordham University at Lincoln Center and the New York University School of Law Alumni Association. She holds a B.A. from Fordham University at Lincoln Center and a J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she received the Vanderbilt Medal for extraordinary contribution to the law school community.

At the DirectWomen Board Institute of 2012 Robles-Román attended informational sessions with distinguished faculty on key issues facing current and future corporate directors. As a DirectWomen alumna, Robles-Román is part of a network that includes over 100 Board Institute alumnae, nearly 30 Sandra Day O’Connor Board Excellence Award honorees and a vibrant group of supporters including CEOs, directors of large public companies, executive search firm principals and other leaders of the business community.
