The Urban Network Music Summit is Coming to San Diego May 1-4

SAN DIEGO - April 23, 2014 - PRLog -- “Back to Basics,” the Music-Entertainment Summit, hosted by Urban Network Digital & Amalgamation Magazine, is shaping up to be the must-attend networking event of the year. The Summit will be held, May 1-4, 2014 at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, 8110 Aero Drive, San Diego, California, 92123.

Some 100 panelists have signed on to share their expertise and wealth of knowledge to our rapidly growing number of registrants. They include high-ranking executives from major labels, publishing companies, A&Rs and executive consultants—representatives from Universal Music Publishing, Motown Records, Motown Gospel, Capitol Records, Roc Nation, Sony ATV, Billboard Magazine, Warner Chappell, Beats Music, Rondor Music Publishing, The Recording Academy®, Black Entertainment Television (BET), ASCAP, SESAC, and more. Participants include radio professionals from XHTZ/Z90, San Diego; XHRM/Magic 92, San Diego; KKSD/Jazz.com, San Diego; KPRZ/1210 AM, Gospel Radio, San Diego; KJLH-FM/Los Angeles; Accelerated Radio; and more.

The Summit will include an array of entertainment attorneys, independent label and artist consultants, managers, social media strategists, publicists, songwriters-producers, and a host of others. The Summit Keynote Speaker is Ethiopia Habtemariam, who was recently appointed President of Motown Records, and is Head of Urban Music, Universal Music Publishing. She will be addressing the Summit audience on Friday, afternoon, May 2.

More than 70 artists will be showcasing their music throughout the weekend, starting the afternoon of Thursday, May 1, which is dedicated entirely to the Gospel Music community. The afternoon will begin with two panels: A Gospel Town Hall Panel, and session titled, Gospel Meets the Digital World. Overseeing the sessions are industry veteran Lin Woods of Inspired Lives Foundation, and Leonard Thompson, MANDATE Records, the latter based in San Diego. A dozen acts are slated to perform, including BET Sunday Best finalist (Season 2) Jessica Reedy, Gospel star Brent Jones, and San Diego’s own Lanceé Battle.

Thursday late evening will be capped off with a welcome reception party and showcases featuring a half-dozen young Hip-Hop and R&B artists. Friday, May 2 kicks off a 2-day itinerary of back to back general session panels--topics ranging from Licensing & Music Branding Opportunities; Perspectives from Top A&R and Creative Music Executives; Decks, BPMs & Playlists, a DJ Power Panel; and Hip Hop Onward & Upward. Saturday panel sessions include Financing Your Career, Investing in Your Future; Creating Hit Songs for Major Projects; Navigating Social Media & the Digital Music Worlds; Hustle of the Music Industry: An Indie Label Forum; and The State of R&B 2014, is the Genre Still Relevant? More than 60 Performers will grace the Summit Stages throughout Friday and Saturday. R&B icons Tony Toni Toné will headline the Awards Gala on Saturday night, along with R&B songstress Sheléa, and R&B/Jazz harpist Mariea Antoinette, who hails from San Diego. Other prominent performers include R&B sensation CJ Hilton, Brand X girl group the Jazmin Sisters, rapper Six Reasons, R&B singer/actress Antonique Smith, Dallas rappers Kataztrofee, singer-actor Jonathan McDaniel, rising star Jonn Hart, along with a string of artists who hail from San Diego such as Abrina, Sidekixx, girl group Eleve, and performers from around the country. For fans of Smooth Jazz and Adult Contemporary R&B, Norman Connors (“You Are My Starship”) and saxophonist Kim Waters are headlining a Sunday Brunch, hosted by Street Scholar Music. Doors open at 11am. Tickets are separate from the Summit registration, and are $30 for concert only; and $60 includes concert and brunch.

Artists looking for exclusive face time with key A&R executives can sign up for the “Be Seen Be Heard” sessions. Artists, songwriters and producers can play their music for an elite panel of A&Rs, and receive constructive feedback. Sessions are $250 for five minutes.
