Stakeholders meet at Dubai’s Smart Skyscrapers Summit to drive sustainability

Over 300 of senior government officials, developers, engineers, architects and renowned market players from the Middle East will descend on Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort and Spa on 28th & 29th April 2014.

DUBAI MEDIA CITY, UAE - April 23, 2014 - PRLog -- With an enormous desire to build tall, Dubai will be home to approximately 149 skyscrapers by the end of 2015. The city’s skyline continues to grow and one can look forward to incredibly innovative designs and tall structures being constructed as a part of the ongoing trend.

Premiering this year, the most awaited event focusing solely on the high rises and the technology to develop sustainable buildings, the Smart Skyscrapers Summit 2014 will be held on 28th and 29th April, 2014 in Dubai.

Over 300 of senior government officials, developers, engineers, architects and renowned market players like Knauf, Emirates Steel, Al Ghurair Construction, ABB, Gulf Extrusions, UL, Guardian, Kone, Foamglas and many more from across the globe will descend on Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort and Spa for the event, putting forth their experience, case-studies, showcasing their technology and expertise to accommodate the growing population in the GCC by building smart and sustainable skyscrapers.

Dubai Municipality’s Department of Building Permit will stress on the new regulations and codes to make high rises green. In support of the Municipality’s vision, the Chairman of Green Building Council, Saeed Al Abbar, will present on the economics of sustainable building. Breaking the myth that green buildings are not cost effective, his evaluation will share the return on investment for building green.

Facades being one of the hottest topics in the world of tall constructions, Arup’s Associate Director, Russell Cole will discuss different strategies implemented in skyscrapers of Singapore, all achieving high sustainability ratings and will draw a comparison with the world largest sun responsive facade shades adopted for Al Bahr Towers, Abu Dhabi. With more than 7000 products and services to provide, the global leaders of silicones, Dow Corning will also share insights on growing challenges in technology. Representing the organization, the Global Façade and Architectural Design Leader,Mikkel Kragh will talk about new trendsand innovations in design, performance and sustainability of facades for skyscrapers.

Building tall comes with its own sets of challenges. Sharing his side of the story, Bart Leclercq - Head of Structures Design, WSP Middle East will talk about the challenge of constructing the tallest building in the Europe, The Shard in London on a complicated existing foundation and with the clever use of the cranes.

With fire break outs in Dubai lately being in news, the Summit will also focus on safety from fire and measures to be taken while constructing superstructures including evacuation using elevators, firefighting access and structural fire protection.

Other acclaimed guests sharing their knowledge and showcasing their solutions include Amer Bin Ahmed, Managing Director at Knauf Middle East, A.N. Venkat, Vice President Sales, Heavy Sections at Emirates Steel, Alfred Seeling, Design Director at Woods Bagot, Bert van de Line, Group Technical Director at Permasteelisa Group and many more.
