Africa telecom and finance leaders meet in London as investment opportunities surge

April 23, 2014 - PRLog -- Africa’s leading telecom operator CEOs, strategy and investment heads are meeting with financial institutions in London on June 18 to assess a surge of activity across the region.

Mergers and acquisitions, mobile infrastructure sharing and investment into broadband, including 3G, 4G, and new services including mobile money are providing huge opportunity and demand for capital.

The executives are meeting at the fifth annual TMT Finance & Investment Africa Conference, which has been expanded to include more sessions on new opportunities in adjacent markets and a new series of break out sessions.

“As capital investment in Africa increases and the level of return continues to be relatively high, interest in the region is growing among the global investment community,” said Edwin Grummit, Partner, Head of Middle East & Africa, Analysys Mason, who will make a keynote speech titled, ‘M&A in Africa: short-term drivers and expectations’.

Other key speakers announced for the event include Etisalat, Orange, LAP GreenN, Millicom, Avanti Communications, Helios Towers Africa, IHS Africa, Eaton Towers, Goldman Sachs, Clifford Chance, UBS Investment Bank, Standard Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, Dentons, Frontier Markets Fund Managers, Apis LLP, WIOCC, Seacom, IFC, Coleago Consulting, EMF, Neostratus and Bima.

“TMT is one of the key sectors, but African TMT players face declining growth rates and increasing pressure on profitability, so it is unclear where new capital investment will go, “ added Grummit. “Large-scale consolidation is part of the answer, and is already underway at both the infrastructure and market levels, but there are many other interesting avenues – including broadband infrastructure, content and other adjacent markets”.

The massive demand for new telecoms infrastructure and services across Africa presents a plethora of investment opportunities, but consolidation, restructuring and realignment of business models is also required to make businesses more sustainable. The event is designed to bring together key industry decision makers, investors and advisers to assess opportunities and features 50 speakers, 15 key topic sessions and up to 200 executives.

Key session themes are: Africa Telecom Leadership Strategies; Investing in Broadband; M&A; Raising Finance; Future of TMT; Investing in Innovation; Emerging Markets Risk; Mobile Money; CFO Strategies; Datacentres and Cloud; Media & Content; Nigeria; Policy & Regulation and Mobile Towers.
