PRLog - Apr. 22, 2014 - COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Today, Big Green Head, a company helping businesses, schools and communities set goals to reduce their impact on the environment, announced the schedule for its fifth annual Green on the Green festival, which is May 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Taking place on the day the Worthington Farmers Market kicks off its outdoor season, the festival is expected to draw more than 5,000 attendees.

As part of this year’s festival, Big Green Head, in collaboration with Green Energy Ohio and Interfaith Power and Light, will offer an electric car ride and drive event, along with cooking demos, a clean energy display featuring solar panels, live music and more.

“This year’s Green on the Green festival features new opportunities for visitors to learn how to go ‘green,’ including the opportunity to test drive electric cars and check out solar energy options,” said Karen Ferris, executive director, Green on the Green, and founder of Big Green Head. “We want people to come and enjoy themselves while learning more about ways they can help the environment.”

Green on the Green and the City of Worthington will also receive GEO awards for “Ohio Clean Energy Community of the Year at a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m.

New to the festival this year is the Clean Energy Green, sponsored by Green Energy Ohio and Interfaith Power and Light, featuring a solar panel display. A special screening of the Sundance film Chasing Ice, an award-winning documentary that tells the story of acclaimed environmental photographer James Balogone’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet, will also take place at 12:30 p.m.

In addition to eco-friendly vendors, entertainment and food other highlights of Green on the Green include:

·        * Cooking demo with Chef Jeff Lindemeyer from Cameron’s American Bistro:  Chef Jeff will demonstrate cooking with locally grown seasonal ingredients from the Worthington Farmers Market.

·        * Music for the kids with Mr. Eric, who performs interactive music programs.

·       *  Household electronics drop-off: Spring clean and recycle anything that plugs in or takes a charge at Schreiner’s Ace Hardware

·       *  A “Passport to Green” raffle, which encourages attendees to visit a variety of booths so that they may register for the opportunity to win a gift basket to be raffled off during the event.

·      *   A unique eco-friendly shopping experience offering everything from organic and fair-trade clothing, coffee and chocolates to handcrafted jewelry made from repurposed items.

·      *   Organizations educating visitors about native plant and animal conservation.

·       *  Exhibits, kids' activities and delicious food.

From the simplest “green” steps to the latest in renewable energy and green technology, the festival features something for everyone to learn and do.
