Heywood Hospital Honored by Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention

GARDNER, Mass. - April 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Heywood Hospital was honored with an Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention (MCSP) Leadership in Suicide Prevention Award, along with five other groups from around Massachusetts in February.

Heywood Hospital was recognized by the MCSP for its commitment to providing access to behavioral health services in the North Central Mass region as well as its work with the Greater Gardner Suicide Prevention Task Force.

Heywood Hospital founded the Greater Gardner Suicide Prevention Task Force (GGSPTF) in 2012, in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Department of Public Health's Suicide Prevention Program. Serving the City of Gardner and surrounding towns including: Ashburnham, Athol, Baldwinville, Hubbardston, Templeton, Westminster, and Winchendon with the assistance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Suicide Prevention Program, its mission of the GGSPTF is to not only prevent suicide, but also to provide education and resources to help those who struggle with depression, survivors of suicide, and those who have lost loved ones to suicide.

Representing Heywood Hospital at the awards ceremony were Win Brown, president and CEO, Dawn Casavant, VP, External Affairs; Barbara Nealon, Director of Social and MultiCultural Services, Tina Santos, VP, Operations and Chief Nursing Officer and Nora Salavardos, Director of Mental Health Services . State Senator Stephen Brewer and State Representative Jonathan Zlotnik were also in attendance on behalf of Heywood Hospital and the Greater Gardner Region.

Winners are selected by previous award recipients from a pool of nominees. Awards were presented at the MCSP’s 15th State House Day, an awareness and educational event held in Boston.
