Costco to Host Book Signing for Legendary Locals of Santa Clara Authors

Clarence Robert Tower and Ken Lichtenstein will be available to sign copies of pictorial history

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - April 22, 2014 - PRLog -- A local history book reveals the intriguing characters and everyday citizens who have made Santa Clara’s history legendary. Legendary Locals of Santa Clara shares the stories of unique individuals and groups, past and present, who have had a lasting impact on the community throughout its history.

Vintage images coupled with facts and anecdotes culled by local authors Clarence Robert Tower and Ken Lichtenstein reveal the fascinating history of legendary locals in Santa Clara. Not only able to adapt to changing times, but embraced them, Santa Clara has continuously evolved, proudly adopting the nickname of “Silicon Valley” without forgetting its fruitful roots as “the Valley of Heart’s Delight.”

“Santa Clara is a special place in the world, with a great history and where great accomplishments have consistently prevailed,” said author Clarence Robert Tower. The book covers both town greats and unsung heroes like Tiburcio Vásquez, the nineteenth century bandito whose claims that his crimes were retribution for actions against Mexican American rights earned him the nickname “California’s Robin Hood;” Alexander Diana, the first producer of maraschino cherries in the United States whose company, Diana Fruit Preserving Co., is still a family affair after over 90 years in business; and Carol Ragsdale, the 1990 Santa Clara Unified School District Teacher of the Year recipient who devoted 45 years of her life to teaching at Sutter Elementary School.

Tower and Lichtenstein are excited to share the new book with locals. “Although [we] will get the written credit for assembling this book, in reality, it was a combined effort of a substantial group of local participants…and local supporters of our [city’s] historic legacy,” they say.
