Celebrity Greek chef, Elias Mamalakis, is set to heat things up at Plaka

PRLog - April 22, 2014 - JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- Plaka, the well-known and loved Greek family restaurant, is thrilled to announce that they will be hosting Elias Mamalakis, a world famous Greek celebrity chef on the 10th of April at Plaka Eastgate.

“We are looking forward to hosting Elias, who to me, is not only an internationally renowned celebrity chef but an icon and a man that I look up to and can learn endlessly from. Our team is beyond excited to meet Elias and we have no doubt that our patrons will fall in love with the Greek dishes he will be preparing at Plaka on the evening,” says Angelo Haitas, owner of Plaka.

Born and bred in the beautiful city of Athens, Mamalakis is also a successful corporate businessman, who only in his mid-forties decided to pursue his passion for cooking on a professional level.  Soon after that, he became one of Greece's most popular television chefs and media personalities. He is also the proud author of nine cooking books, including his signature book,"bon viveur" credo.

With his rich Greek heritage, Plaka is the perfect place to showcase Mamalakis’ signature dishes. Established in 1993, Plaka boasts flavourful modern Greek food and a vibrant atmosphere which forms part of their unique brand, which is replicated at their Cresta and Eastgate stores.

For one night only, Mamalakis will be cooking up some very creative dishesas he and the Plaka team will be offering a mouth-watering four-course meal comprising of the finest modern Greek food. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge their taste buds in an exceptional wine pairing with dishes such as Greek caviar from Mesologi, prawns wrapped in Kataifi phyllo, barley shaped pasta rice with marinated lobster and a semolina halva with strawberry essence will round the evening off.

"Elias has created a delectable once off menu which we are looking forward to offering our patrons. Whether you love Greek food or want to experience it, Plaka is the place to be on the 10th of April," concludes Haitas.
