U.S. appoints Shutts & Bowen Fort Lauderdale Partner Brendan Barry to Big Cypress advisory committee

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - April 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Brendan Aloysius Barry, a real estate partner in Shutts & Bowen’s Fort Lauderdale office, has been appointed by United States Secretary of Interior Sally Jewell to the Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Advisory Committee (http://www.nps.gov/bicy/parkmgmt/orv-advisory-committee.htm) of the Big Cypress National Preserve (http://www.nps.gov/bicy/index.htm).

The federal appointment to the three-year term was effective April 9. The committee examines issues and makes recommendations regarding the management of off-road vehicles in the preserve.

Mr. Barry is a second-generation landowner in the preserve’s “addition lands,” or 147,000 acres added to the preserve through a federal act in 1988. The preserve, about 45 miles west of Miami, covers 720,000 acres in Miami-Dade, Collier and Monroe counties.

For his appointment, Mr. Barry received endorsements from Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, former Republican Representative Allen West, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner “Alligator” Ron Bergeron. Nelson, West and Bergeron all cited Mr. Barry’s personal knowledge of the addition lands, his professional real estate expertise, and his commitment to protecting the preserve.

In his commercial real estate practice, Mr. Barry represents owners, developers and lenders across Florida.  He also handles complex commercial transactions for businesses and entrepreneurs.

Active in the community, Mr. Barry is a board member of The Boys and Girls Club of Broward County, and a member of the board of directors of the Port Everglades Association. He is also a member of the Audit Committee of the Broward County School Board.
