Chaparral MusicFest announces 2014 summer music workshops in Prescott

Unique music experiences are supported by local foundations.
 
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - April 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Chaparral MusicFest in beautiful Prescott, AZ presents educational workshops for youths-seniors and engaging performances free to the community. 2014 events include Chamber Music Workshop, Composition Workshop, Youth Choral Workshop, Percussion Workshop, Suzuki Academy  Schedule and registration are available online at chaparralmusicfest.org or phone 480-980-6516.

Scholarships are available to all workshops thanks to the J.S. Acker Foundation, Coca-Cola, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts. The Chamber Music Workshop has been made possible through the generosity of ACMP-The Chamber Music Network. Youths aged 18 and under qualify automatically for a $40 scholarship to any workshop. Need-based scholarships are also available to all workshops; see details on the registration form.

The Celebration Concert following each workshop as well as the Community Drum Circle Saturday June 7 at the Prescott Public Library are free and suitable for all ages.

Chamber Music Workshop is a friendly weekend workshop June 6-8 for piano, string, woodwind and brass players age 15 onwards. Players may come as individuals or with a pre-formed group. Program fee of $195 ($155 for Prescott residents 18/under) includes coaching by Arizona Artists Roster group Seventh Roadrunner Ensemble, sheet music, tee shirt, Friday dinner, Saturday lunch. Attendees will have great experience and great fun playing wonderful music.

Chamber Music Workshop participants will receive 13 hours of workshop credit. Teachers are welcome to attend on their primary or secondary instruments. An additional two workshop hours are available by attending the Recycled Instruments Workshop on Friday June 6. Composition Workshop-lead by Owen Davis, Chicago-based percussionist and composer- is  a five day interactive and hands-on experience for instrumentalists, vocalists, composers of all levels aged 15-20. Tuition is  $200 ($160 for residents of Prescott aged 18/under) for Composition Workshop, June 14-17.  Students will realize and develop their musical creativity through chamber music performances.

Youth Choral Workshop is June 9-13. Young singers ages 11-18 will work on building their vocal technique and choral repertoire with the director of the Prescott Women's Chamber Choir, Arlene Hardy, at Chaparral MusicFest’s Youth Choral Workshop. Nomusical  experience is necessary. Tuition is $80 ($40 for Prescott residents aged 18/under)

Percussion Workshop is a day camp for children ages 8-12 led by Henry and Maria Flurry of Sticks and Tones. No musical experience is necessary. Students will play drum set, world instruments, compose, perform with Sticks and Tones, and even lead a community drum circle! Percussion Workshop is June 2-7 and tuition is $140 ($100 for residents of Prescott).
