Mercedarian Sisters Offer Advice on Discerning a VocationBy: Mercedarian Sisters For young women who feel called to religious life, there is great joy and peace in recognizing and following God's calling. As St. Catherine of Siena rightly said, “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire!” However, the path to reaching this vocational clarity is often murky and unsure. Many roadblocks present themselves to women discerning religious life. Often, a woman may recognize a religious calling, but feel stifled because of the lack of support – and understanding – from her family and friends. How does a young woman deal with opposition from her family? One group of Sisters, the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, found that this lack of support was a common problem with the young women they encountered. The Sisters decided to address this concern in one of their vocational newsletters. Read the Sisters' article, “Overcoming A Lack of Support During Discernment” The Mercedarian Sisters' newsletters touch on topics such as vocational insights, discernment advice, the role of Catholic Sisters, Pope Francis' writings and homilies, and the Order's Marian and Eucharistic charism.
