Signature Foods Named in Inc. Magazine's Build 100 List: The Most Influential Private Enterprises i

PRLog - Apr. 18, 2014 - PENDERGRASS, Ga. -- Inc. Magazine has named Signature Foods to its Build 100 List of the most 'sustained growth' firms in the U.S.  The Build List is a comprehensive look at one of the most important segments of our economy—America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs. Signature Foods was also named among the top companies in the Inc. 5000 category for the fourth time in five years.

Signature Foods, a privately owned food company, packs distributes and markets specialty and private label foods for institutional  distributors, trade groups, wholesalers and ecommerce. Signature Foods excels in the private-label food arena, concentrating on frozen food packing and distribution, targeting small to mid-sized retail / wholesale food distributors and other niche frozen food markets. Both Distributors and Consumers spread the word about Signature (which does not advertise) calling it “an innovative company.”

The company is behind  Pick 5, an unbranded frozen food meals system sold in supermarkets, allowing families on a budget to choose five nutritional elements in frozen packs of four servings each.

"We are particularly proud of our inclusion in the Inc . Build 100 because the List takes into account private company performance in the areas of creativity, market growth, employment growth,  and excellence in entrepreneurship. Signature Foods now has over 200 employees, recently adding 42 new jobs, says co -founder Chuck McAtee.

Companies such as Microsoft, Zappos, Intuit, GoDaddy, Under Armour, Jamba Juice, American Apparel, Oracle, and hundreds of other powerhouses gained early exposure as members of the Inc. 5000.

Signature Foods, with headquarters in Pendergrass, Georgia, was founded in 2003 by two big-food-company executives Chuck McAtee and Tom Southworth who created its 'out of the box' business model. Their understanding of the wholesale and retail food market has resulted in a past three years of growth of 2648%

"In today's economy, when more families than ever are on food stamps, we keep our meals to standards that allow parents to give their children the top in nutrition while staying on a realistic budget. We believe that eating at home can be just as economical as a fast, high fat, high sodium meal on the run," says co-founder Tom Southworth. He adds, "We study what families want to eat today and make it easily available and affordable. That is one way we keep families healthy and together. That's our philosophy at a time when too many are eating on the run and childhood obesity is too high,"

“As a custom packer that utilizes a mix of automated versus manual/hand-pack resources to execute an order, we maintain a high level of flexibility,” says McAtee. “We have also been tenaciously pursuing volume opportunities that fit well within our capacity, sourcing capabilities, and expertise within the temperature-controlled food industry.” One example is their  Sigpack a  custom packing system for mid sized companies.

About Signature Foods-Signature Foods was founded in 2003 by  Chuck McAtee and Tom Southworth two former finance executives at a large food company. Signature Foods works to find a balance between accepting the right accounts and its desire to grow. The company also spends a great deal of time managing future cash-flow expectations. Signature Foods looks to continue growing at a double-digit rate.
